Kyiv half marathon has become the fourth Silver Label half marathon in the world

Kyiv Half Marathon was awarded the Silver Label status by World Athletics, an international association that includes 214 athletics federations from around the world. It is the first Ukrainian race with such a label that testifies to the high level of organization and compliance with world standards.

To obtain this status, the organizers had to meet a number of requirements of the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) on April 7, 2019 during the 9th Nova Poshta Kyiv Half Marathon. Recently, the World Athletics, as the former IAAF is known since October this year, have confirmed successful fulfillment of all the requirements.

IAAF Silver Label is, first and foremost, an indicator of the quality of the race that can attract foreign runners. Having received the label, the race is added to the official World Athletics event calendar, which is used by world athletes in planning their running season.

Currently, more than 100 running events are found in the 2020 World Athletics calendar (until September), including about 20 half marathons. Only three other half marathons besides Kyiv have the Silver Label status: Kagawa Marugame International Half Marathon in Japan, PZU Warsaw Half Marathon in Poland and Minsk Half Marathon in Belarus.

Silver Label is a status awarded by the International Association of Athletics Federations. In particular, the requirements for obtaining such a label include:

  1. Participation of world-class elite athletes in the race.
  2. Closing streets for all kinds of traffic on the route and presence of an official route meter.
  3. Organization of pacemakers, hydration and food stations, pace-car (guide car) with a chronometer on it in accordance with the requirements of the International Association of Athletics Federations.
  4. Electronic capturing of results for all participants.
  5. Doping control and medical control.
  6. Event coverage on television or streaming services.

Kyiv Half Marathon is the only race in Ukraine with a World Athletics label. It held a IAAF Bronze Label status since 2018. Back then Dmytro Chernitskyi, the Run Ukraine General Manager, announced that Kyiv Half Marathon will attempt to obtain the Silver Label in 2019.
